Success story: reactor with a strong corrosive

RDD sealToday it is 6 months now since our RDD double seal was installed at a vertical reactor-agitator with hydroxyl-amine-sulphate at a nitrogen fertilizer plant in Siberia.

The fluid is very corrosive and dangerous because of 19% sulphuric acid, nitrogen oxides and hydrogen. Because of this, an expensive alloy had to be used for making wetted metal parts. Shaft size is 240 mm, so the parts were quite big. To cut the costs for the end-user, the gland and sleeve were made of two metals. The pieces in special alloy were welded to the pieces in common ss316 stainless steel.

Since 25-th of May, 2006, the seal has been successfully working in a stop-and-run mode. Measurements show a much lower temperature of outgoing barrier fluid compared to competitor seals.
